I have been a follower of Christ since 1992. I understand Jesus’ teaching that those who are His followers will be able to cast out demons. I have been in the presence of people who have experienced a demon being cast out of them, which has manifested in the ways that are clearly described in the Bible.

I have read books on this subject, written by high profile Christians, and many say that once we become followers of Christ, we personally cannot have demons in us that need casting out. They say quite rightly that we can be oppressed by demons, causing us depression, anxiety, fear and all manner of troubles, but they state that we CANNOT have demons actually in us that need casting out.

I believed this to be the truth for the first sixteen years of being a Christian….until early one morning in 2008, when something strange happened to me. I will try to put it into words, although I know that my words will be totally inadequate to describe the experience that took over me, without me doing anything to cause it to happen.

It started with a dream. It was the early hours of the morning and I was having a dream where I was at a large Christian conference where there was a high profile Christian preacher. Strangely, both the preacher and I were wearing the same tops! (not that this fact has any relevance!).

I approached her and asked if I could hold her hand. I don’t know why, but she said I could only hold one of her fingers. I didn’t question this, but just did as she requested, and at the same time, I knelt down with my head bowed, and I began to pray. She also prayed, and so did some people who were behind me. I do not recall what we were praying about, although I was aware that I was praying in tongues.

All of a sudden, this strange sensation came over my body, which felt like what I can only describe to be a supernatural ‘vacuum cleaner’ sucking an evil spirit out of me. This evil spirit was being drawn up and out of my heart at an angle of 45 degrees to the right. My whole body was engulfed in this experience, and it felt as if everything was being shaken up inside my heart and my head.

I felt an intense resistance from this evil spirit in my heart. It was fighting against being drawn out of me. Whilst I could feel everything that was happening to me, oddly I could actually see what was happening to me as if I was watching myself from behind. I heard all these evil noises inside myself and around me as if this evil spirit (or maybe more than one spirit) was being drawn out by the power of God.

This dream was SO powerful that it actually woke me up. But as I woke up, I found that my heart, mind and body were ACTUALLY physically experiencing what was happening in this dream! In real life, whilst I was wide awake, my whole body was shaking violently, and my heart was experiencing this ‘supernatural suction’, and my mind was focused like a laser on God for deliverance from this evil spirit. My hands were gripping the bed frame because I felt like I would be sucked out of the window, such was the force of what was happening to me in real life.

As all this shaking was going on, out of my mouth came all these evil, gutteral noises in a deep masculine tone. I could hear it all so clearly and it was terrifying. I tried with all my strength to say the word “Jesus”, but no sound came out of my mouth. This was even more terrifying, because I knew that only calling on the name of the Lord would deliver me from this evil. It felt as if Satan had his hands over my mouth and had glued my lips together so that I could not speak the name of Jesus.

However, I was determined to keep trying to cry out His name, and after several more attempts, I managed to say “Jesus” over and over again, in the tiniest of whispers as if through clenched teeth, because it was as if my mouth had been paralysed. I just held on to the bed frame whilst all this was going on, and I did not move until I felt that all this activity had ceased. It seemed to take forever, but from the time of waking up from the dream, the real life deliverance took about one minute. I was utterly exhausted when it was all over.

I know with certainty that this was a real experience of deliverance from an evil spirit, but it was triggered by a dream involving a Christian leader, and an act of faith on my part to simply do as she requested and ‘hold her finger’. I felt power and faith come out of her through her finger, which caused the evil spirit to submit to the authority of Jesus Christ in her and in me, through our faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. It is about obedience to God, even if the method seems strange to us (i.e holding her finger).

So to all who claim that believers cannot have demons in them to cast out, I can confirm that a demonic spirit was cast out of me! It was a gruelling experience, so I am not likely to make this all up and deceive you.

Many times over the years I have experienced the presence of an evil spirit in my bedroom, and I have tried to call out the name of Jesus, and the same thing has happened where I have not been able to speak because of this sensation of being gagged. But through sheer determination, I have managed to whisper His name, and the evil spirit has fled. Thankfully this has been confirmed by other authors whose books I have read, who have had the same kind of experience.

Before coming to Christ, I had got caught up in all sorts of worldly things. I had opened the door to Satan and his demons. But when I came to Christ, I still found myself entangled with these things and I failed to repent of them. I believe that the evil spirits of these sinful behaviours were still inside of me and needed to be cast out, but most churches are fearful of anything to do with demonic activity, and so no one offered to pray for me for deliverance.

When God’s people fail to do what Jesus has instructed them to do, God has to do the job Himself! So I am fully convinced that this is what He did to me!

God delivered me from evil! This truth is actually part of the Lord’s Prayer, where we pray, “Deliver us from evil” (Matthew 6:13 & Luke 11:4)

Glory be to God forever!

We call ourselves a Christian; a follower of Christ, but do we examine our daily lives to see if we are really living as Christ would want us to live?

Christianity goes far beyond the mere “head-knowledge” of the principles of our faith which we find in Holy Scripture. Many have great knowledge of what God’s Word says. They hear His Word and are well-learned in what it says, but are they actually “doers” of His Word?

Real Christianity is rooted in a love for God and His Word that compels us to actively live out what we believe, and express it in every situation in our daily lives, in the ways that we think, act, speak and feel.

When we approach everyday situations from the perspective of God’s ways and purposes, we will stop and ask ourselves questions such as, “How would Jesus want me to apeak to that person?” or “How would Jesus want me to respond to that person’s attitude or behaviour?” or “How would Jesus want me to respond to that person’s obvious need?”

The answer lies in 1 Corinthians Chapter 13. Let’s have a look at what God’s Word says is true Christ-like love is.

Love is patient.

Love is not jealous, boastful, proud or rude.

Love does not demand its own way.

Love is not irritable.

Love does not keep a record of being wronged.

Love does not rejoice about injustice.

Love rejoices in the truth.

Love never gives up.

Love never loses faith.

Love is always hopeful.

Love endures through every circumstance.

If we are truly honest, we will admit that we struggle with most of these character traits on a daily basis. Sometimes we seem to handle things beautifully and want to be like this all the time, but other times, when we are tired from a stressful day at work, we respond to things the opposite of this Biblical definition of Christ-like love.

God wants us just to be honest with Him about our failings, but with a desire to want to change. He is looking at our heart. He searches our hearts to see if we have any desire to want to be transformed from our carnal, fleshly self into a person who will respond to all of life’s challenges with His grace.

So, let us examine our lives and, if we need to get on our knees and ask the Lord to help us to change, let’s do so without delay!

A while back, when I was having a time of prayer, I felt the Holy Spirit say, “When are my people going to let God dwell in His House? They have evicted Him with their compromise and complacency, and it is full of the deeds of darkness.”

I was startled by the force of this message, and so I began to write the following, which I believe is also what God feels about His Church:

“He is the OWNER of the House. We get to live in His House, but it must be under HIS conditions. God’s rules and conditions will PROTECT His House. It is GOD who knows what is best for those who dwell in His House, but they act like THEY own the House, and they behave in ways that are CONTRARY to God’s “House Rules”. If His people continue to rebel and run His House in their own ways, they will cause great damage to His House, and many churches will fall because of this.

The parable of the Vineyard tells us that the Owner of the Vineyard had gone away on a long journey and had sent people to “sort it out” whilst He was away, but the people who were supposed to be looking after the Vineyard beat up those whom the Owner had sent to them. When He sent His only Son to go and “sort it out”, they killed him! This is what God’s people are doing every time someone comes to them to warn them to Wake Up and “Prepare the Way of the Lord”. His people push them out and say, “We don’t need you! We have been ‘doing church’ like this for a long time. We are quite happy thank you! Leave us to do it OUR way”.

God’s people have EVICTED God from His OWN House! Through the many “Wake Up” calls He has been sending to the global Church, God is trying to enter His Dwelling Place again, but the people won’t let Him in. WAKE UP Church! Open the doors and let God back in HIS House! Let Him have HIS way in HIS House! How long are we going to bind and gag Him and throw Him out every time He tries to get back in?

Why do we think we can do a better job on our own, without Him? Who do we think we are to presume that we can do the works of God without Him? The Church knows the truth but is doing nothing of any significance about it, other than continually implementing the ‘ideas of men’ to try to solve their problems and those of society.

The outcome of the failings of the Church is that the nations are perishing. The Church is not representing the truth of Christ on this earth. The Church is delivering a diluted message that is merely pleasant and soothing to the ears of its hearers, but doesn’t convict them of sin or the need to repent and believe His word. Without God in the House, the Church’s message is devoid of the challenging, convicting, life-transforming power the Holy Spirit. If we don’t let God back into His House to bring it into order, the house that WE have built for ourselves, on the shifting sands of our own desires, will crumble and fall.”

I believe that many followers of Christ have a wrong view of God’s counsel and correction. When He convicts them of sin through the counsel of His Word, they think that He is condemning and punishing them. However, this thinking is FAR from the truth! The purpose of God’s counsel and correction is the demonstration of His DEEP LOVE for those who have become followers of Christ. God’s desire is to reveal to us what is wrong in our lives and then show us from His Word what we need to do to correct the things that He has pointed out.

When we receive God’s correction with a thankful heart and apply His counsel with humility, ALL of heaven rejoices at our obedience! God’s correction is for our ultimate BENEFIT. It is His loving restraint, designed to prevent us from falling into situations which will reap catastrophe and destruction in our lives, which is why it is so vital that we read His Word and obey what He says.

Whilst His correction may be painful to bear, if we  heed His correction and do not resist it in a spirit of pride and rebellion, then we will learn and grow in both our earthly and spiritual lives. But, if we DO resist God’s counsel and correction, and consistently rebel against it, consequences will begin to be brought into effect in our lives through the fulfilment of God’s eternal Law which confirms clearly that we will reap what we sow.

“For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”Ecclesiates 12:14 KJV

If we proclaim to be followers of Christ, we deceive ourselves if we think we can live a life of rebellion against God’s Word, and for this not to have any consequences.

So, why do we STILL insist on wilfully engaging in behaviour and practices that are diametrically opposed to God’s counsel and correction…?

Image result for images of abiding in Christ

To me, ‘abiding in Christ’ means to have such a deep relationship with the Lord that we think, feel, speak and act according to what His Word teaches us, instructs us, exhorts us, and commands us to do. The things we think must honour and please Jesus. The things we say must honour and please Jesus. The things we feel in our silent emotions must honour and please Jesus, and the things we do must honour and please Jesus. To me, THIS is ‘abiding in Christ’.

Our every thought, feeling, word and deed should be motivated solely by obedience to the Word of God. If we find that in any area of our life we are not honouring and pleasing Jesus, then we need to stop that thing IMMEDIATELY, confess and repent of it before God and receive His cleansing and forgiveness through the blood of Christ (1 John 1:9).

If we know that what we are thinking, feeling, saying and doing is NOT in obedience to the Word of God, and we fail to to anything about it (i.e confess and repent of it), our soul is in great danger. If we continually fail to respond to the conviction of the Holy Spirit about the things we are doing which dishonour the Lord, slowly but surely we will become desensitized to these dishonouring things, and we will just do them without any thought of the potential eternal consequences.

Many followers of Christ have ship-wrecked their faith through failing to examine their daily lives in the light of God’s Word. If we would do this simple task each day, the habit would soon become our automatic response in any given situation. When practised frequently, we would KNOW almost immediately when we have thought wrong thoughts, felt wrong feelings, spoken wrong words and done wrong things. We would sense the conviction of the Holy Spirit, and we would be quick to put rights all our wrongs.

Abiding in Christ is not some ‘airy-fairy’ feeling of tranquility; to me it is a command to be alert and on our guard against the subtle works of darkness that seek to pounce upon us when we least expect it. To me, abiding in Christ means to be transformed by the renewing of our mind and to be diligent in our application of God’s Word in every area of our life, thus becoming like Christ in thought and word and deed.

Abiding in Christ is not an emotion of peace; it is a command to rise up and respond in a spiritual and godly manner to all that life throws at us (see Philippians 4:6).  When we do this, the outcome of this ACTIVE ‘abiding in Christ’ WILL bring about in our hearts and minds the peace of God which passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

So, dear brothers and sisters in Christ, let us abide in Him, at all times, for our daily peace and our eternal security.
